Located smack in the middle of our nation, Kansas' demographics reflect those of a stereotypical central US state. Check out data for Kansas' race, religion, income, and education level below!

With 85% of the population being white, Kansas does have much racial diversity:

  • 85% white

  • 5% black

  • 3.5% mixed

  • 3% Asian

  • 2% Other

  • 1% Native American

Kansas is dominated by white Christians, who generally favor conservative and Republican beliefs such as strong national defense, gun rights for all, a laissez-faire economy, and pro-life movements. The dominance of these groups for the past few decades explains the lack of recent Democratic success.

Kansas's population primarily consists of high school to college graduates that earn the American average wage (~$40,000).

On average, men earn nearly $15,000 more than women, and the average Kansas adult earns about $38,000, which is just about the national average. Unsurprisingly, an increase in education level is correlated to the amount of money earned.

With a little more than 3/4 of its population having completed at least high school, Kansas has a very diverse education level, including:

  • Graduate: 12%

  • Bachelors: 21%

  • Associates: 8.5%

  • College: 23%

  • High School: 26%

  • 9th to 11th Grade: 5.5%

  • None: 3.5%

  2. Cattle Production - Kansas is No. 3 in the US in terms of beef processing

  3. Energy Production - Kansas is No. 10 in the US in oil, natural gas, solar, and wind power.

As with "Income by Education Level", the more educated in Kansas generally do "better off". In general, those with a greater degree of education have a smaller chance of being below the poverty rate.
